From the research for the book 'The Leadership Challenge'  the five most important leadership traits are:

1. Honest
2. Forward-Looking
3. Competent
4. Inspiring
5. Intelligent

Honest- He or she must be honest as others might not want to work with someone dishonest as they are not able to trust that person which will cause the person to be unsuccessful compared to others.

Forward-Looking- They should be forward-looking because if they do not plan ahead when they do things, it will normally lead to a mess and others that could help you in becoming a leader would not think you are capable to be one.

Competent- To lead and be a successful person, you must also have the ability and knowledge.

Inspiring- A person should know how to inspire and influence people in a good way in order to let people trust you and support you as a leader.

Intelligent- Last but not least, a person must be intelligent to show others you have the ability to become a leader.
